Our Sustainability

Together for a sustainable tomorrow

At RISIS, we're redefining our journey toward sustainability with unwavering transparency and relentless determination. While we acknowledge the complexities and imperfections in achieving full sustainability, we are dedicated to continuous improvement and responsible practices. Our commitment goes beyond just words; it’s embedded in every decision we make and every piece we craft.

We reject superficial solutions and are dedicated to substantial change. Rather than settling for carbon offsetting, we are actively working to reduce our emissions at the source. We aspire to be leaders in the jewelry industry, not just by creating beautiful pieces, but by building a brand that prioritizes the planet and its people.

Understanding the intricate global supply chain of metals and gemstones, we are pushing for greater traceability and ethical sourcing. Our goal is to transform these challenges into opportunities for growth and betterment. We believe that each step we take, no matter how small, contributes to a larger impact on workers, communities, and the environment.

Our journey is ongoing, and we are committed to making meaningful progress. Join us in our mission to forge a more sustainable and ethical future. Together, we can make a difference, one step at a time.

Manufacturing

Our wastewater treatment system effectively treats wastewater from all production activities, ensuring zero pollution to the public sewage system.

Our scrubber systems manage air pollution from electroplating process by treating all harmful gases to prevent discharge of pollutants.

We collaborate with our equipment and electrolyte suppliers to seek improvement in efficiency whether in energy consumption, cathodic performance or rinse-water recycling.

Recycling

To reduce our carbon footprint, we have engaged in a circular process where we recover and recycle gold from manufacturing wastages and rejects.

Sell to licensed collectors to recycle materials e.g. pewter.

We are committed to utilising safer chemical products to minimise production of hazardous waste. Our jewellery and objects are encapsulated in a Gold bath that is nickel and cyanide-free.

Packaging

We have updated our paper bag packaging to use materials that are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) mix 70%, to align with our sustainability goals and to conserve the environment.

Transitioning the current jewellery box packaging to those made of FSC sustainble materials.

e-Commerce courier packaging using recycled material and FSC paper.

Products

Partnered with a Thai wood supplier and introduce sustainable materials into our products. The wood is recyclable and they adopt a green production process to manufacture their products.

Explore products with innovative designs, featuring a wide range of sustainable materials for both jewellery and home and lifestyle products.

Fulfilment

For every order we receive, a formula is used to calculate the estimated shipping emissions. Based on those estimates, a portion of our revenue goes to carbon removal companies that have been vetted by scientists from Carbon Direct.

Those companies use that money to remove however much carbon our shipments created. Any extra funds go toward the further development of carbon removal technologies.

Jewellery with a heart for people and the planet

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. From our production facilities to what goes into making of our pieces, we engage in long term environmental practices that ensure the well-being of our customers and employees.

Our Contribution So Far

Nickel and Cyanide-Free Environment

To prioritise the well-being of our workers, we have made substantial investments in our facility and technology, by formulating our specialised bath solution to be nickel and cyanide-free.

This reduces toxicity to the environment and promotes a safer work environment while mitigating the risk of health hazards, ensuring the overall well-being of our workers.

All Wastewater are 100% Treated

We adopt circular economy principles and invested in the state-of-the-art wastewater treatment technologies and infrastructure to ensure that all wastewater is treated to the highest standards before being discharged.

We continually strive to comply with all applicable environmental regulations and standards related to wastewater management.

Recycling Precious Metals

We are a strong believer of conscious consumption and our pieces should allow every consumer to feel and look good inside out. Through our recycling efforts, we aim to minimise the environmental footprint associated with precious metal extractions, reduce the demand for newly mined materials, and contribute to the conservation of natural resources.

Environemntal impacts can be reduced by up to 95% with recycled resources, recycled gold emits 600 times less carbon than mined gold.

Sustainable Wood Material

Turning acacia wood into products can have a relatively low carbon footprint as they offset the carbon emissions during harvesting and processing. They remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, mitigating the climate crisis.

Teak wood boasts a comparatively low carbon footprint and offers environmentally sustainable benefits such as carbon sequestration, the preservation of forest ecosystems, protection of biodiversity, and a long lifespan.

FSC-Certified Packaging

We are proud to announce that up to 70% of our paper bags and boxes are currently made from FSC-certified materials. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification ensures that the materials used in our packaging come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.

Our dedication to sustainability doesn't stop here. We are committed to increasing the percentage of FSC-certified materials in our packaging to 100% by 2026.

Carbon Footprint Reduction

Scheduling bi-monthly shipment of goods from the factory in Johor Bahru to Singapore HQ, thereby saving 125 kg of CO2 emissions per year when compared to weekly shipment to meet demand.

Strategic delivery route planning for delivery of goods between SIngapore HQ (Warehouse) and all retail outlets resulting in savings up to 57% of CO2 emissions.

Engage services from third party logistic partners who pledge carbon neutral missions such as Fedex & DHL.

Support for Artisanal Craftsmanship

All of RISIS products are fully handcrafted. We value our partnerships with artisans who specialise in traditional craftsmanship as it allows us to support local economies and safeguard cultural heritage.

We believe that people are the foundation of our company's success. Every product we offer is meticulously handcrafted, from carefully selecting orchids to expertly crafting and gold-plating each piece.

Human Resources Initiatives

By providing resources and support to help employees cope with stress, the company acknowledges the importance of their health and happiness. Team bonding activities foster a positive work environment and strengthen relationships among employees.

An annual health screening event is organised to help employees take proactive steps towards maintaining well-being and addressing any potential concerns. Additionally, fruits and healthy snacks are distributed to all employees on monthly basis to promote a healthy balanced diet.

To be socially responsible, every piece of jewellery is encapsulated in a cyanide-free gold bath to ensure the quality remains.

Raffles Design Institute

Empowering the next generation of jewellery designers, we kickstarted a meaningful collaboration with students from the Raffles Design Institute, giving them the opportunity to exhibit their craft in designing jewellery collections based on Nature and Asian inspired themes. This provides students with opportunities for artistic expression as we foster a spirit of giving back to society.

We launched the winning design of this collaboration - Midori, in celebration of our new flagship store at ION Orchard.

National Parks Board Plant-A-Tree-Programme

We participated in the Plant-A-Tree Programme, promoting environmental and social responsibility. The initiative allows us to actively contribute to greening our City in Nature by planting trees, supporting the OneMillionTrees movement to plant one million more trees across Singapore over 10 years till 2030, thus restoring nature to our city.
